Laparo-endoscopic Single Site Surgery (LESS)

Some patients are suitable for LESS surgery. The advantage of this type of surgery over traditional laparoscopic surgery is it can be performed without leaving a scar. This is because the abdominal cavity is accessed using the umbilicus (belly button) which is a natural scar. Post operative pain and recovery is similar to traditional laparoscopic surgery.

Conditions suitable for LESS include:
  • renal cyst ablation
  • renal cryoablation of a small tumour
  • simple (non cancerous) nephrectomy (e.g. painful, non-functioning kidney)
