Umbilical access device Final cosmetic result at 4 weeks LESS surgery to remove a
with instruments (tan mark from dressing) non-functioning painful kidney
Some patients are suitable for LESS surgery. The advantage of this type of surgery over traditional laparoscopic surgery is it can be performed without leaving a scar. This is because the abdominal cavity is accessed using the umbilicus (belly button) which is a natural scar. Post operative pain and recovery is similar to traditional laparoscopic surgery. Conditions suitable for LESS include:
- renal cryoablation of a small tumour
- simple (non cancerous) nephrectomy (e.g. painful, non-functioning kidney)
